Track Raises Purses 35 Per Cent

Some may not have noticed it, but a Standardbred racetrack has raised its purses 35 per cent as of late in an effort to attract horses to its entry box.

A release from Monticello Raceway explains that the track has increased purses by 35 per cent in the span of three weeks.

The track’s race secretary, Eric Warner, has noted that the last three condition sheets have each shown a purse increase of 10 per cent, 15 per cent and 10 per cent.

“Historically this is when we always raise our purses,” said Warner, who added that, “it is our intention with the increased purses that we can attract more horses.”

Warner also stated that it is very difficult to fill the entry box this time of the year with all the tracks being open.
