Trotamundo Tops At Saratoga

Trotamundo was all alone at the end of a 1:59 mile as he sprung a mild upset in Monday afternoon’s (Feb. 19) feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

In the $7,500 event for New York-sired trotters, the Guy Howard-trained Trotamundo sat the pocket behind favourite Cash Bonus, who made a break around the final turn. The five-year-old then inherited a big lead, one that was extended to 6-1/2 lengths when he hit the wire first in 1:59.

For driver Billy Dobson, the win with Trotamundo was one of two on the day after a trio of Sunday scores. The 33-year-old Dobson won five consecutive driving titles at Saratoga from 2010 to 2014 and remained in the top three behind Bruce Aldrich, Jr. and Frank Coppola, Jr. through the last three seasons.

Matinee programs are scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 22) and Sunday (Feb. 25) this week at Saratoga, with action beginning each day at 12:15 p.m. Eastern.
