Former S-Bred Track On The Market

It has been announced that a former Standardbred racetrack has been reintroduced to the multiple listing service.

According to an article by the Cape Breton Post, owner Jack MacNeil has put Tartan Downs, located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, back on the market.

Tartan Downs’ 24-acre property, which has been assessed at $88,500, has recently been placed back on the MLS network for $235,000. Roughly 25 horses are still stabled on the property.

MacNeil, a former horseman, purchased the longtime harness raceway in 1995 after it fell into receivership. The track, which was once known as the Cape Breton Sports Centre, was shut down in 2007 when it failed to remain financially viable.

The grandstand was demolished in 2012. Deals to purchase Tartan Downs have fallen through over the years.

MacNeil was quoted as saying that it is possible that the track could be purchased for the intention of hosting live horse racing.

“It’s sitting there doing nothing,” MacNeil was quoted as saying. “Perhaps someone out there could have plans for it.”
