Weekend Cancellations Announced

Trot Insider has learned a number of tracks have abandoned their Saturday (Jan. 6) and Sunday (Jan. 7) racing programs, owing to frigid conditions canvassing much of the eastern seaboard.

The following Standardbred racetracks have cancelled their Saturday programs:

• Woodbine Racetrack has abandoned its first programmed card of 2018 due to extreme cold. The next card scheduled at the metropolitan Toronto racecourse is Monday, Jan. 8.
• Red Shores Charlottetown abandoned both their pari-mutuel and qualifying races scheduled for Saturday. Action is scheduled to return to Prince Edward Island next Saturday, Jan. 13.
• Flamboro Downs cancelled their Saturday evening card, citing extreme cold. A 10-race program is scheduled for the Dundas oval on Sunday, Jan. 7.
• The Meadows Racetrack & Casino has cancelled Saturday’s live card due to the dangerously frigid conditions forecast. The track and its Harmar facility will remain open, with their regular hours, for simulcast viewing and wagering.
• The Meadowlands and Freehold Raceway have abandoned Saturday's races after cancelling Friday's (Jan. 5) programs.

Additionally, Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia has abandoned their Sunday (Jan. 7) afternoon card on account of frigid temperatures forecast. Fraser Downs also cancelled their Sunday program due to unfit track conditions.

The following Thoroughbred tracks have cancelled their Saturday programs:

• Aqueduct
• Laurel Park
• Mahoning Valley
• Parx
• Penn National
