New ‘Player’ In Thursday's Top Class

Red Shores’ Thursday night feature this week at the Charlottetown Driving Park will see an unfamiliar face lined up on the starting gate. Complete Player will take a break from stakes action this week at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time for the 10-dash card will be 6:30 p.m. The Tom Weatherbie-trained Complete Player has drawn Post 3 for the program’s final dash, which carries a purse of $1,900. Mark Bradley drives the three-year-old son of Brandons Cowboy for owner David Kennedy of Charlottetown. The pacing colt will be making his first start since his MacKenzie Memorial stakes division in Truro, NS was declared a ‘no contest’ on June 25.

Complete Player has been racing primarily in stakes events this season and has proven exceptionally difficult to beat off the front end. To the first to the rail he has to overcome the inside duo of Oh To Be Me (to be driven by Gary Chappell) and Three Truths (Kenny Arsenault). Zingers Laugh (Mike McGuigan) will make his 2017 Island debut from Post 5 in the event (his last pari-mutuel start came at Woodbine Racetrack in February). Other entries include Likely To Win (Adam Merner), Starcastic (Brian MacPhee) and Simon Said (Marc Campbell).

The top mares pace of the evening will also feature a Bradley-driven pacer as a top level threat. Race 9 will be contested for a $1,500 purse. Shesaroyal Cowgirl has drawn the rail and is riding a three-race win streak for trainer-driver Bradley and owners William Andrew of Calgary and Brian Andrew of Milton Station. West River Ambyr is the morning line choice for driver Steven Shepherd, but will have to overcome the outside Post 6. The ultra-consistent Julep Hanover (Wade Myers) has Post 3 with seven second and four thirds from 13 seasonal starts, but still searches for her first win of the season.

The two fastest trotters in the history of east coast harness racing, Freddie (Campbell) and Morosita Bi (Jason Hughes), are set to tussle in the Race 7 Open Trot for a $1,850 pot. The aged duo has won the last two renewals of the weekly event, not to neglect Osprey Impact (Walter Cheverie), who that has been right there at the finish during the last two fast trot miles.
