Hawthorne Has 600 Stalls Available

With the summer Suburban Downs at Hawthorne Race Course meet to open on Thursday, May 11, over 600 stalls have been allocated on the Hawthorne backstretch.

Racing for the summer meet will be conducted four nights a week, racing Thursday through Sunday evening with a 7:10 p.m. post time. The Suburban Downs at Hawthorne Meet will conclude on Sunday, September 24.

Horses, and families of horsepeople will be allowed to move onto the grounds of Hawthorne on Thursday, May 4. Two days of qualifiers will be offered prior to the opening of the racing season. Qualifiers will take place on Friday, May 5, and Monday, May 8. Each day qualifiers will begin at 10:00 a.m. During the racing season, qualifiers will take place prior to racing on Thursday evenings. Qualifiers will paddock in Barn 1 on the Hawthorne backstretch.

The first day of entries will take place on Monday, May 8. The draw schedule for the racing meet will be as follows:

• Monday – double draw races for Thursday and Friday
• Tuesday – no draw, racing office closed
• Wednesday – draw for Saturday races and Thursday qualifiers
• Thursday – draw for Sunday races

The entry box will be scheduled to close at 9:00 a.m. with the exception of opening week, as the box will remain open until after qualifiers are completed.

For the first two qualifying dates, entries for qualifiers for Friday, May 5 will be taken on Thursday, May 4. Entries for qualifiers for Monday, May 8 will be taken on Sunday, May 7.

A reminder for horsepeople that horses will only be allowed to bed on straw, no shavings will be allowed. ‘Barn D’ will be the paddock once again for the meet. Paddock and lasix times will be posted prior to the first draw day.
