Scarlet Brocade Passes

Joan Gannon has reported with great sadness that world record holder Scarlet Brocade p,8,1:49.2z ($373,669) has passed away at the age of 20.

The daughter of Big Towner-Meadow Scarlet held two track records, one of which is a world record (1:49.2 at Colonial Downs in 2005, the fastest mile by a pacing mare on a greater than mile track). Ironically enough, both tracks are now defunct (Rockingham Park and Colonial Downs).

Scarlet Brocade was a family project and trained by Joan’s two teenage boys under the watchful eyes of their grandfather, Franklin Gannon Sr. She did not hit the peak of her career until age eight.

Once Scarlet Brocade was retired, the Gannon’s decided to make sure she led a happy life. She became an incredible mom to six offspring, and the Gannons still own all six of them. The family will certainly miss Scarlet Brocade.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Scarlet Brocade.
