RUS Fitness Test & Seminar Details

Racing Under Saddle (RUS) Ontario is gearing up for another pari-mutual race season and eagerly looking for new riders to join the sport.

Everyone is welcome and invited to find out what is required fitness-wise of a RUS rider with the opportunity to try riding a Standardbred during RUS Ontario's Annual Fitness Test and Hands On Seminar on Sunday, March 12.

The fitness test will take place on at 1 p.m. at 7384 Wellington Rd. 30, RR#5 Guelph, Ont.

The fitness test is based on European fitness tests, which are mandatory, while here in Ontario, RUS Ontario runs the test voluntary for individuals to gauge their fitness levels.

The test will include a 3 km run in 15 minutes, one minute of push-ups, one minute of sit-ups, one minute of jump squats, two minutes of plank, and two minutes of wall sits.

The riding seminar will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Shamrock Training Centre, 6822 Wellington Rd 34, Puslinch, Ont.

Those attending the seminar will learn about the differences in equipment from everyday english or western compared to monte race style equipment. Attendees will also gain insight into the conditioning of a RUS horse and qualities to look for in a suitable horse, with an opportunity to ride a horse alongside experienced riders and receive guidance to better your riding style.
