John Leahy, the owner/breeder of world champion Jeremes Jet, confirmed that the stallion passed away on Friday, Aug. 25 at the age of 20, according to a report by the U.S. Trotting Association.
Leahy said that Jeremes Jet was retired from the breeding shed and enjoying his retirement at Schwartz Boarding Farm in Berne, Indiana.
Jeremes Jet was the O'Brien, Dan Patch and Nova Two-Year-Old Pacing Colt of the Year in 2005. Trained by Tom Harmer, he won 16 of 35 lifetime starts and earned $1,659,413. His time trial mark of 1:47 was taken at age four at The Red Mile.
A son of Western Hanover out of the Sportsmaster mare Ohyouprettything, Jeremes Jet was the sport's richest freshman pacer in 2005, winning six of seven starts including the Metro Pace, Breeders Crown and Governor’s Cup. He went on to earn victories including the Windy City Pace and Meadowlands Pace Consolation as a sophomore. His 1:47 time trial set a new world record for four-year-old horses and was the third fastest mile in harness racing history at the time.
Jeremes Jet stood as a stallion in Ontario and Indiana and his offspring earned $43,872,710. Some of his top performers include Windsong Leo ($876,329 - 1:48.2), Jet Airway ($780,995 - 1:49.2), Deetzy ($688,994 - 1:50), P L Hurricane ($676,468 - 1:50.4), Ideal Jet ($664,557 - 1:49.1), Little Bem ($662,660 - 1:49.3) and Apogee Hanover ($632,431 - 1:51.4).
