Two of the best drivers in Quebec, Pascal Berube and Stephane Brosseau, are in a hotly-contested battle for leading driver status at Hippodrome 3R this season.
Currently, Berube leads Brosseau, 25 to 24 wins and the last couple of weekends both drivers have excelled. On Friday at 3R, Brosseau added one win, but Berube came up with a driving double to maintain his one-win lead in the driver standings.
Come this Sunday, both drivers will again be in action. Berube has the slight edge as he has drives in eight of the 10 races while Brosseau is only listed to drive in five races.
As for the trainer standings, Sylvain Tremblay and his Alpha Stable lead the pack with 13 wins. In second place is Maxime Velaye with 10 wins from his stable.
The top pacers on the grounds will again do battle on Sunday in the eighth race Preferred-Handicap Pace.
Last week’s winner, Somewhere Bettor, goes from post six for driver Jocelyn Gendron and is coming off a strong wire-to-wire triumph by one and one-half lengths in 1:56.3. It was the second win of the season for the five-year-old Bettors Delight gelding who is trained and owned by Yannick Martel of L’Assomption.
His rival and race favourite, Dreydl Hanover, goes from post seven for driver Samuel Fillion. These two have teamed up to accrue four wins this season for trainer Francis Richard and owner Francois Morin of Beauceville. In his last start, Dreydl Hanover was also able to lead from start to finish, barely holding on at the wire to win by a nose in 1:56.4.
Other contenders in the field include Littlebitaswagger (Post 5), D Gs De Vito (Post 3) and Farmers Tan (Post 4).
First race post time Sunday is 12:30 p.m. A free race program is available at hippodrome3r.ca. To view the entries for Sunday's card, click the following link: Sunday Entries - Hippodrome 3R.
