Road Trip For Fool Me Once

The glamour boys travel to Vernon Downs this Thursday for a New York Sire Stake event worth a total of $132,975, and among the starters is the Mark Austin-trained Fool Me Once.

Fresh off his fourth-place finish in the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup final at Mohawk Racetrack on June 15, Fool Me Once and driver Scott Zeron are scheduled to take on eight rivals including the 5-2 morning line favourite and recent Art Rooney champ, Doctor Butch, and the multiple NYSS winner, Sir Carys Z Tam.

That division sets up in a fashion that may well threaten Coral Snake's 1:50.1 Vernon Downs track record for sophomore pacers, and perhaps even Hes Gorgeous' all-age standard of 1:48.3. Both records were established over the strip last year.

Twenty-seven colts and geldings were entered resulting in three even divisions of nine, each for a purse of $44,325. The undercard offers a quintet of $12,800 Excelsior divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

First post Thursday is 6:45 p.m.
