The stakes season is just getting underway but a pair of three-year-olds who were purchased at the 2021 Goshen Yearling Sale have already been headline winners.

Thunder Hunter Joe (Huntsville-Thunder Angel) was victorious in 1:51 in a $50,000 division of the Paul Revere Stakes held at Plainridge Park on Thursday, May 4. The time was a new lifetime mark and it also set a new Paul Revere stakes record. After competing in the New York Sire Stakes final at two, Thunder Hunter Joe is now undefeated this year and in only seven lifetime starts has earned $83,950. Thunder Hunter Joe sold as Hip #41 for $39,000.

On Saturday, April 29, I Was Tricked (Huntsville-Shepulledthegoalie) won the $50,000 divisional final of the Bobby Weiss Series at Pocono Downs in 1:50.4, which was also a new lifetime mark for the gelding. He was unraced at two, but this year already has four wins in only six starts, including three straight victories in the series, with $54,960 on his card. I Was Tricked sold as Hip #33 for $55,000.

Thunder Hunter Joe and I Was Tricked are only two of many that will be competing from this class of Goshen Yearling Sale graduates that will soon be joined by many two-year-olds who went through the sale last year.

Since 2015, the Goshen Yearling Sale has offered high quality stock from top breeders including sale regulars Cameo Hills Farm, Winbak Farm, Blue Chip Farm, Silver Tradition Stable, Leatherstocking Equine, Pine Hill Stable and ThyWillBe Done Farm and Marie Houghtaling. This year will be no different and there is still time to enter yearlings in the catalogue.

The deadline is Monday, June 19 to consign horses to the 2023 Goshen Yearling Sale that will be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, New York.

“This year promises to be one of our best offerings in the history of this sale. Yearlings from proven sires that year after year have turned out solid racehorses as well as big stake earners and record-setters,” said Mark Ford. “The catalogue is filling up quickly with outstanding offerings that our customers will want to bid on. We are looking forward to welcoming another great crowd in September and will provide the best experience possible for both the seller and buyer.”

The sales facility is located at 90 Slaughter Road, Middletown, NY, which is within a 90-minute drive of many major racetracks and training centers in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, making it a very convenient location.
