Ellamony Classic To Benefit Cancer Centre

Flamboro Downs today announced a partnership between the Juravinski Cancer Centre and the track’s hallmark spring racing event, the Ellamony Classic

.

Beginning with the 2011 renewal, the Ellamony will be completely overhauled and transformed into a major fundraiser benefiting the Breast Assessment Centre at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton Health Sciences.

The Ellamony Classic honours the bravest pacing mare in the history of harness racing. Partnering with the brave women in our community fighting breast cancer is a natural fit. Flamboro is honoured and proud to be part of two great communities, Hamilton and harness racing.

Set for Saturday, June 25 at 1:00 p.m., the Ellamony Classic will see Flamboro Downs transformed into a massive garden party open to the residents of Hamilton and horse racing enthusiasts. Fans will enjoy an all-female card of racing featuring Ontario Sires Stakes trotting fillies and the finest mares on the continent in the $100,000 Ellamony.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the entire community together for a great afternoon of racing and fundraising,” said Flamboro Downs Marketing Manager Wendy Wasylowich. “The response has been amazing from dignitaries, to celebrities to community groups. There’s going to be something for everyone!”

Even local politicians have stepped up to the plate. Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina, MPP Ted McMeekin, and executive director of Tourism Hamilton David Adames will each take a turn in the Flamboro Downs Money Machine and donate their cash hauls. The Hamilton Professional Firefighters will be on site with their ever popular calendar sale. There will be plenty of ways to donate to this worthwhile cause – Upscale Lunch in Top O the Turn (reservations required), Charity Car Wash, Sampling Stations on the Tarmac, Hat Sale, Penny Sale, Silent Auction, 50/50 draw, and much more.
