Race Secretary Pete Koch has added another innovative short series to The Meadowlands' condition sheet for the coming week.
Named for one of those great old campaigners that called The Big M home for years, The Gina Giant, the class requires a start for a claiming tag of $12,500 or less in their last three starts. There will be no claiming of horses in the series. Divisions will be raced on Saturday, April 12 for $12,500 and the top finishers will return the following Saturday for a $20,000 final.
Also on the Friday and Saturday menu are $20,000 three-year-old Opens for all sexes and gaits designated as preps for the John F. Simpson Memorial three-year-old stakes. The "Simpsons" will open the Grand Circuit schedule for 2013 sophomores at The Meadowlands.
The box closes at 9 a.m. on Monday morning for Friday's races and the condition sheet is available on the web.
