Malina, Strongman Qualify For WHHC

Marlene Malina of Elmira, Ontario, and Terry Strongman of Waterloo, Ontario, are enroute to the 2014 World Harness Handicapping Championship at The Meadowlands, after their handicapping efforts resulted in first and second place finishes in SC’s March Madness Online Handicapping Challenge Championship.

The 2014 WHHC takes place on April 19 at The Meadowlands and features $60,000 in prize money and a $24,000 Grand Prize.

Malina was the best of 20 finalists, winning the Championship with $62.40 to her credit, while Strongman was the next closest with $49.80 in his bankroll.

Malina snagged the win with her selection of Strategy, a 12-1 winner in Race 9 at Woodbine. Strategy was worth $40.20 to Malina’s bankroll. ($27 for win and $13.20 for place)

Malina’s other selections that finished first or second were:

Race 6 – Flamboro - # 2. Abs to Envy - $7.00

Race 8 – Flamboro - # 8. Zorgwijk Jock - $3.70

Race 6 – Woodbine - #1. Machal Jordan - $8.30

Race 7 – Woodbine - #4. Jenna Casimir - $3.20

Strongman selected two winners – Lavros Vision N ($12.30) in Race 7 at Flamboro and Dreamfair Eclipse ($10.40) in Race 7 at Woodbine. He also added to his bankroll with two second place horses – Tigra Seelster ($6.30) in Race 6 at Flamboro and Lets Leavem ($20.80) in Race 8 at Woodbine.

Twenty players competed in Saturday’s Championship round. Players qualified with a top 5 finish in one of four qualifying rounds of the Online Challenge.
