The Equine Disease Communication Centre (EDCC) has reported that a case of equine strangles has been confirmed in a Standardbred located in Ontario.

Located at a private facility in Grey County, Ont., an eight-year-old Standardbred showed clinical signs of fever and nasal discharge on Nov. 23. The case of equine strangles was confirmed the following day and the horse is in voluntary quarantine.

The horse is recovering under veterinary supervision and the farm owner has implemented voluntary movement restrictions and biosecurity protocols.
