Johnson 'Crown' Trainees To Race

Trot Insider has learned that Corey Johnson's horses will race this weekend in the 2014 Breeders Crown Finals despite a suspension handed down by the Ontario Racing Commission on Monday.

On Saturday, Johnson qualified Traceur Hanover for the Breeders Crown for two-year-old colt pacers. Traceur Hanover won his Breeders Crown elim in 1:50.3 for driver Andy Miller. That same night, Voelz Hanover won her prep race for Johnson and driver Brian Sears. One of 11 pacing mares entered in the Breeders Crown Open Mare Pace, Voelz Hanover didn't have to qualify for the final as all 11 mares entered automatically advanced.

On Monday, the Ontario Racing Commission suspended Johnson pending a hearing yet to be scheduled. Johnson was on probation for two years following a positive test in 2013. The ORC posted a positive test for pacer My Lucky Bluejeans, effective November 17, making that horse ineligible to race in Ontario for 90 days.

Meadowlands owner Jeff Gural confirmed to Trot Insider that the Johnson-trained horses would be allowed to race in the Breeders Crown finals given that he's yet to have his hearing.
