Three-year-old pacing colt Reys N A Commotion completed a perfect stakes season on the Manitoba Great Western Fair Circuit as he streaked to an authoritative 19 length victory in the $11,492 MSSBA Golden Boy Final on Saturday at Miami Fair.
Reys N A Commotion left from post four in the circuit's final stakes event of the season and carved out fractions of :30.1, 1:01.1 and 1:32.3 over the "good" surface before drawing away to the open length score in 2:02.4 with Don Howlett aboard. Bust My Butt (Corey Manning) and a from-last Hands Down (Michel Rey) were the best of the rest.
The Armbro Trench-Thundrabird colt, who is bred and trained by Richard Rey, has now won eight consecutive races, including two prior Golden Boy legs, the MSSBA Futurity and Manitoba Great Western Fair Stake. Reys N A Commotion boasts a seasonal record reading 9-2-0 in 11 starts with earnings climbing to $24,593 for owners Howlett, Trevor Williams, and Michael Williams, all of Winnipeg, MB.
Earlier on the card, For The Roses converted off a pocket trip to win the $10,856 Silk Lace Final for sophomore fillies.
Driven by Dean Rey, outside post five starter For The Roses followed Mb Swamp Donkey (Don Howlett) through opening panels of :32.2 and 1:05.3 before edging by at the 1:39 third quarter station and drawing clear to win by a length and a half in 2:10.1. Mb Swamp Donkey stayed for second and Shes A Princess (Roland Rey) finished third off a three-hole trip.
The homebred Abbatom-Zeglarska Street filly, who won an opening round division of The Silk Lace early this season, now sports a record reading 2-3-2 in eight starts during her debut season with earnings totalling $11,707. She is owned and trained by Roland Rey of St. Claude, MB.
Fresh off a victory in the Kindergarten two weeks ago, Mexican Maid earned back-to-back stakes victories as she captured the $4,280 final of The Juvenile for two-year-olds also on Saturday's card.
Mexican Maid swept around early leader Chill Fighter (Kirk Rogers) after the :32.1 opening quarter and cruised through middle splits of 1:03.3 and 1:36 en route to a three and a quarter length triumph in 2:08.1. Alcars Blue Bird (Marc Fillion) and Uncle Bob (Ron Cullen) came on for second and third.
Bred by the husband and wife driver-trainer team of Darryl and Sherri Mason, the Armbro Baylor-Tequila Lullaby filly is now four-for-seven in her career with earnings of $5,287 for owner Donald Anness of Emo, Ont.
The season concludes on Sunday at Miami with a final card of harness racing beginning at 1:30 p.m.
