There was a familiar sight on the 11-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, Sept. 3 as Aladdin kept the magic going and extended his win streak to five in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace.

Starting from post four in the field of five with Stephane Brosseau aboard, Aladdin flew to the front end in the early stages, setting a hot early pace with a :26.1 opening quarter. Aladdin was able to catch a slight breather in the second quarter, leading to the halfway point of the mile in :55.2. Pressure came to Aladdin in the form of race favourite, The Light Speed and Guy Gagnon, as Aladdin was first to three-quarters in 1:23.1.

Aladdin took a two-length lead into the final turn as The Light Speed ducked into the pocket intent on tracking the leader down in the stretch. In the lane, Aladdin dug in gamely with a :28.2 final quarter to fend off a final push by The Light Speed to score the victory in 1:51.3 by three-quarters of a length. Shotgun Jerry and Stephane Pouliot finished third. Aladdin paid $5.30 at the betting windows for the victory.

The victory was the sixth in 10 seasonal outings for the Maxime Velaye trainee, who has only finished off the board once in 2023. Owned by Guy Corbeil, Aladdin is a four-year-old gelded son of Shadow Play out of the No Pan Intended mare, Eloge. The 1:51.3 clocking was a new lifetime best for Aladdin, lowering his mark of 1:52.1 established in the Rideau Preferred on Aug. 27.
