With this year’s Jugette and Little Brown Jug taking place today and tomorrow, respectively, Ontario-based trainer Casie Coleman is looking to deliver in both events

.

Coleman has never won either prize, but she is hoping to change that this year with Kyle Major and Western Silk.

Mark MacDonald is listed to drive both horses. He was victorious in 2006 when he guided Mr Feelgood to victory in the Little Brown Jug, and he’s back this year looking to steal the show with Kyle Major and Western Silk.

Kyle Major, a three-year-old son of Art Major, recently moved into the Coleman barn. In his most recent outing, Kyle Major won his division of the $247,894 Simcoe Stakes at Mohawk Racetrack in 1:49.4.

Coleman has nothing but praise for her new pupil that has $385,984 in earnings on his card.

“I think he’s (Kyle Major) coming into the race in perfect condition,” Coleman said. “He won his previous start and he has the rail. We are just hoping for some luck.”

Kyle Major, who is owned by Robert Hamather of Exeter, Ont., has been blessed with Post 1 in his opening-heat elimination and has been assessed at 7-2 on the morning line.

Coleman’s other entry, Western Silk. is the 5-2 morning line favourite in her opening-heat elim of the Jugette. The three-year-old daughter of Western Terror won the final of the Fan Hanover Stakes earlier this year at Mohawk and is looking to capture the first Jugette victory for Coleman and owner Tom Hill.

“She set the track record earlier this year at Western Fair in 1:53.2. That was the middle of May and I feel that is equivalent to a 1:50 mile here at Delaware,” Coleman stated.

“She has come into the race in perfect condition, there has been no issues with her at all. I expect a big performance.”

Western Silk has drawn Post 4 in her opening-heat Jugette elim.
