Evident Beauty Upsets In Elegantimage

After making a costly break in the lane in last week’s elimination round, Evident Beauty was forced to settle for a small share and deal with the outside post going into Saturday’s $376,000 final of the Elegantimage.

It didn’t seem to bother her – or driver David Miller - one iota.

Evident Beauty got away seventh in the rich tilt while Cloud Nine Fashion and The Ice Dutchess took turns on the lead through first-half fractions of :27.1 and :55.3. The Ice Dutchess was still in charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:24.1, but the backfield was closing in.

Heavily-favoured When Dovescry commenced a first-over rally on the way to the half, and she was second on the outside as the field headed into the final quarter of the contest. The Ice Dutchess coughed up the lead to When Dovescry, but she weakened late and gave way to Evident Beauty. Miller had her third over throughout the back-half of the mile, and when he found her late racetrack to work with she managed to kick home in :27.4. That was good enough to earn her the win by a half-length margin over Only Take Cash in 1:53. When Dovescry settled for third.

Sent off as a 9-1 outsider, the Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman trainee found her way to victory lane for the sixth time this season and for the ninth time in her career. The daughter of Trixton-Struck By Lindy, who is owned by Mel Hartman, Little E LLC and R A W Equine Inc, watched her lifetime earnings climb to $753,463 with the triumph.
