It has been reported that on Tuesday, September 12, members of Toronto and East York Community Council went on the record as voting against the addition of a casino or expanding gaming facility downtown.

An article by the National Post explains that an October 10 forum has been scheduled for Torontonians to let their opinions on the controversial topic to be heard. The session will take place during the community council's next scheduled meeting, which will get underway at 6:00 p.m.

A report by the Toronto Sun on yesterday's council decision has quoted Councillor Adam Vaughan as saying, “I’m tired of the back room deals, I’m tired of more of these promises that are being offered by people for slot machines in hotels and slot machines in bingo halls as a way of inducing support for casinos.”

I can see in the future that the Premier will wish he never talked about casinos.

Yes, it is wonderful to see that someone in Toronto makes sense. Now, if the other municipalities would see the light, and reject casinos that will likely be owned and operated by US investors, they just might be made to realize this supposed cash cow is not as plentiful as they thought it would be. But while that is happening the horse racing business is a bust and 1,000's out of work and likely their homes as well. It is a sad day also when MOHAWK announces that the back stretch will CLOSE DEC 15, 2012....

I think a full scale investigation of certain politicians' finances are in order.

It's nice to see politicians stand up and represent the people who elected them, by doing the right thing. Good for you Toronto Council.

We owe a big THANK YOU to Mr. Vaughan, not only for opposing the addition of a downtown casino or expansion of gaming facility in downtown Toronto, but also for having the guts to stand up and speak the truth with regard to the "backroom deals" and promises being made to certain politicians in order to get slots in downtown hotels and "BINGO HALLS". Just maybe some sort of remuneration has changed hands already, and that is why these three refuse to admit their wrong doing in fear of some sort of retaliation! I believe after what they have put this industry through over the last 6 months, the turmoil and stress they have caused, it wouldn't hurt for them to live in fear for a while. Turn about is fair play and they made the rules, or rather "NO RULES" in this game they are playing with the livelihood of 60,000+ Ontarians with no compassion whatsoever!
