Millionaire pacing mare Voelz Hanover got up in the final strides to establish a new lifetime mark of 1:49.2 in Friday night's $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Mohawk Racetrack.

Returning to the Corey Johnson stable, Voelz Hanover and driver Randy Waples followed favourite Monkey On My Wheel (Scott Zeron) through fractions of :26.3, :55 and 1:22.4 before slipping by at the pylons for the neck victory. Monkey On My Wheel settled for second after a stretch duel with first over Ferrari Sena (Sylvain Filion), who finished just a half-length behind in third.

Posting a speedy :26.1 closing quarter, Voelz Hanover earned her 37th career win for owner Richard Berthiaume of Pointe-Aux-Trembles, Que. This year, the eight-year-old daughter of Astreos has earned eight of those victories from 21 starts while banking $126,550 as she inches towards the $1.5 million earnings mark.

The 5-2 second choice paid $7.60 to win.
