The nine-year-old Federal Flex gelding Arrakis rode the pocket and kicked out late to take a 1:53.2 victory in the $13,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Georgian Downs on Sunday (Aug. 29).

Leaving from the pylon post, Arrakis sat second to The Fixer to a :28 first quarter and remained at the pegs as Esquire mounted a first-over bid approaching a :56.1 half. The Fixer accelerated into the backstretch, and Esquire began to tire to three-quarters in 1:23.4. Off the corner, The Fixer remained in front until Arrakis had room to trot from the pocket. Driver Travis Henry hustled Arrakis for the lead late and edged a neck in front to win over The Fixer with Franks Angel riding the pylons for third.

Owned and trained by Francis Guillemette, Arrakis won his eighth race from 16 starts this season and his 25th from 189 overall, earning $404,464. He paid $6.60 to win.
