After never getting involved in his Hambletonian Day assignment in the John Cashman Memorial at The Meadowlands, Marion Marauder made a guest appearance at Woodbine Mohawk Park and captured Monday evening’s $36,000 Preferred Trot.

With Bob McClure at the controls, Marion Marauder shot to the early lead from Post 6 and laid down fractions of :27.3, :56.3 and 1:25.1 before using a :27.3 final frame to win by a half-length margin over race favourite Hey Livvy in 1:52.4. Run Director, who put first-over pressure on the leader around the final turn, was a lapped-on third.

Mike Keeling trains the seven-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Spellbound Hanover for Jean Wellwood and his son, Devin Keeling. The victory was the second of the season from six attempts for the 22-time winner. The lion’s share of the loot lifted the classy campaigner’s career bankroll over $3.6 million.
