Ideal Jet Swift At Georgian

Seizing command early, Ideal jet strolled to a 1:52.1 win in the $15,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Georgian Downs on Sunday (Aug. 23).

Driver Doug Brown sent the Craig Barss trainee to the point from the pylon post, and led the field through fractions of :26.2, :55.3 and 1:23.1. YS Lotus tipped first over from fourth moving to the final turn but gave chase as Ideal Jet opened his lead. Through the stretch YS Lotus gained slight ground on Ideal Jet, who hit the finish a diminishing two-and-a-quarter lengths in front. Pocket-sitter Oceanview Magnum gave chase in third.

A nine-year-old stallion by Jeremes Jet, Ideal Jet won his third race from 18 starts this season and his 36th from 219 overall, earning $567,750. Barss bred and co-owns the $2.80 winner with Nurko Sokolovic.

Carsons Shadow scored a narrow win in the race before, taking the $9,500 Preferred 3 Pace in 1:52.3.

Race-favourite Outlawgrabbingears circled to the lead past a :27.3 opening quarter and before a :57 half. Mach Code tipped first over moving to the second turn tracked by Carsons Shadow and advanced to race near the leader’s wheel by three-quarters in 1:25.2. Outlawgrabbingears continued to lead as Mach Code faltered into the turn, prompting Carsons Shadow to move three wide. The four-year-old Shadow Play gelding gathered momentum into the stretch to draw alongside Outlawgrabbingears and eventually downing the pacesetter by a nose with Jay Eye Em rallying from third over for show.

Owned and bred by David Carson, Carsons Shadow won his first race from six starts this season and his eighth from 30 overall, earning $104,398. Vicki Gregg trains the $6.90 winner while Jason Ryan sat in the bike.

The Sunday program also included a $6,000 Racing Under Saddle dash (Race 2), and it was the Pam Forgie-ridden LMC Mass Oak that overtook leader Talbot Eh Plus in the late stages to post a neck win in 2:04.2. The Dean Nixon trainee was sent off as the public's choice and returned a $4.70 win mutuel to his backers. The eight-year-old Muscle Mass gelding is owned by Leo Racicot, of Harrow, Ont., and Brianna Fenn, of London, Ont.
