Electric Syl Upsets At Truro

Fresh off an Old Home Week win at Red Shores Charlottetown, Ten-year-old veteran Electric Syl ($19.10) sprung an 8-1 upset in Tuesday evening's (Aug. 21) $1,675 featured pace at Truro Raceway, using a pocket trip to vault past String Busters in 1:58.

The Electric Stena gelding left from post 6 to secure the pocket behind odds-on favourite Dragons Fire (Ernie Laffin) through a :28.2 first quarter and was able to track a middle half duel through splits of :59 and 1:27.3 after String Busters (Daniel Romo) offered first-over pressure out of third with a circuit to go.

String Busters wore Dragons Fire down on approach to the far turn, and Electric Syl — who slid second-over out of the pocket up the backstretch — took aim turning for home. Electric Syl accelerated to the fore in mid-stretch and drew off to beat String Busters by 1-1/2 lengths. Dragons Fire faded to third.

It was Electric Syl's 33rd career win, and his fifth of the season for owners Andrea and Ryder Rennison and trainer George Rennison. For driver Todd Trites, the featured win capped a hat trick on the eight-race card.
