Ambrose Gillis and Dam Lucky followed the pocket trip to victory in the feature Winners Over Pace on Wednesday (Aug. 2) evening at Inverness Raceway.
JJ Scarlett (Donald Gillis) became the designated pacesetter for the mile as she led her field of five through panels in :30.2, 1:01.2 and 1:30.4. All the while, Dam Lucky followed her lead, keeping her within a 1-1/2-length reach. Down the lane, three of the feature pacers fanned out. Dam Lucky got up in time to take the win by a quarter of a length in 1:59.4. Eastcoast Invader (Monica Sutherland) took second and JJ Scarlett rounded out the top three.
Dam Lucky is trained by Ambrose Gillis for owner Dionne Gillis. The eight-year-old Camluck-Machbethslady gelding posted his first win of the season and 20th career victory. He paid $9 to win.
