Indiana Sires Stakes action returned to Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Wednesday, Aug. 17 with four divisions highlighting the evening’s 14-race card. Two $66,000 divisions for the trotting fillies and two $68,000 divisions for the colts were featured.
The freshman trotters have now completed the third preliminary round of their six-round series as they look toward the $250,000 Super Finals slated for Oct. 14 at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Yo Beth D (pictured above) made her first start for new connections a winning one as she delivered an impressive open-length 1:54.3 victory in the opening division for the trotting fillies. With Trevor Smith in the bike for new trainer Todd Luther, Yo Beth D went to the front and never looked back. With a final quarter of :27, Yo Beth D finished 11 lengths in front of Ts Pride and Trace Tetrick.
The daughter of Helpisontheway-Scented Roses has now won four of five lifetime starts. Owned by Black Magic Racing, LLC, Yo Beth D is now undefeated in stakes action this season.
In the second division for the trotting fillies, Stella Rose and Michael Oosting utilized opposite tactics, scoring from off the pace after a ground-saving trip. Stella Rose found late racing room up the inside and used a :27.2 final quarter to stop the timer in 1:56.4. Stella Rose was a two-length winner over Swan Fancy and Peter Wrenn.
Trained by Byron Hooley, the daughter of Dover Dan-Rose Run Rae recorded her second win from seven seasonal starts. Owned by Summit Pacing Acres LLC, Stella Rose has now bankrolled $44,587 for her connections.
Texsong Soprano and John DeLong delivered as the heavy betting favourite in the opening division for the trotting colts. Texsong Soprano moved first-over down the backside and continued marching to the wire in 1:56.3. Using a :27.3 final panel, Texsong Soprano held off a late charge from Jailhouse Dance and Michael Oosting to get the victory.
Trained by Missy Essig, the son of Text Me-Muscling In has now won three of five starts in his young career. Owned by Joe D. and Daryl D. Yoder, Texsong Soprano has now earned $87,222 in lifetime purse earnings.
In the second division, Bourbon Courage and Trace Tetrick waited until the stretch to make their game-winning move. Bourbon Courage employed a :26 final quarter to track down Empire Builder and Brandon Bates late in the lane. The 1:56 victory marked a new lifetime best for the Erv Miller trainee.
Bourbon Courage is a half brother to the 2021 Hambletonian winner, Captain Corey. The son of You Know You Do-Luv U All now sports a lifetime bankroll of $79,290 and is owned by Bowie Racing, D&M Trading and Anthony Lombardi.
Indiana Sires Stakes action will continue at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Thursday, Aug. 18 with one $134,000 division for the two-year-old pacing fillies highlighting the evening’s 13-race card.
