Single-Horse Spill At Woodstock

A one-horse spill occurred at Woodstock Raceway on Tuesday as a result of a breaking horse and a traffic tie up in the early stages of the eighth race.

Bookie, in rein to Nick Steward, made a break shortly after the start of the race, and that sent a number of horses off stride as a result. Included in the mix up was St Lads Seraph and her driver, Mike Whelan. That mare, who was bothered by the breaker, had her sulky wheel hooked from behind by Exquisite Alberta and driver Bruce Richardson, who couldn't avoid the commotion. Whelan was then flipped out of the bike and St Lads Seraph fell.

Whelan told Trot Insider he was a bit stiff and sore from the spill, but he managed to fulfill the remainder of his driving commitments. Whelan also indicated the mare came away from the incident with no major injuries.
