Discus Hanover Takes Vernon Open

Discus Hanover won the $9,200 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday night (Aug. 13).

Discus Hanover went straight to front and led to the first quarter in :27.3. He put the field asleep with a :31 second quarter and was first to the half in :58.3. He cruised to three-quarters in 1:27.4.

As they reached the stretch Star Track Hanover came all out to challenge as Lepanto used a late brush but neither could get close to Discus Hanover, who won easily in 1:55.4. Star Track Hanover held on to finish second. Lepanto was third best.

Discus Hanover is a five-year-old gelding by Credit Winner. He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst.  It was his third win this season. He now has 31 victories.

Leon Bailey and Frank Affrunti won four races on the card. Bailey got his other wins with Summer Storm ($11.40), Shrimp And Grits ($2.90), and Havana Ooh Nana ($7). Affrunti finished first with Letsflytogether N ($4), Passport To Art ($6), Thomas P Two ($3.60), and Wallet ($2.60).

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (Aug. 19) with a post time of 6:05 p.m. (EDT).
