Dean B Hanover entered Monday’s $88,500 Dream Makes Series Final at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a perfect record, and despite getting a late scare he kept that perfect record intact.

In rein to Jonathan Drury, Dean B Hanover fired off the gate from Post 8 to get himself into position. Stablemate Captainofrocknroll shot to the top and had the field chasing him through an opening quarter clocked in :26.4. Dean B Hanover was parked while racing third through that first panel, but he quickly marched to the top and proceeded to wheel the field to the half in :56.

With that sensible speed to work with, Drury used a :28.3 third quarter to hustle the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3. Dean B Hanover then used a :28.1 final frame to fend off Ucanttouchthis by a head in 1:52.4. A late-driving Island Beach Boy came up just a neck short while finishing third.

“I knew it was pretty close, I thought I maybe had them by a nose, but I wasn’t 100 per cent sure,” said Drury following the victory. “He felt good getting out of there, but I was hoping I could maybe duck him somewhere in the middle and come with cover, but it wasn’t looking like there was many spots and when I saw Casie’s other horse (Captainofrocknroll) driving on to the front I figured I could keep coming and get there fairly easy.”

“He did that in a qualifier where he felt like he was going to let one go by him and then he just stuck his nose out and kept on digging to the wire and then the same thing again tonight,” said Drury of the colt's tenacious attitude. “I thought Bob (McClure) had a real good shot at going by me at the head of the lane, but he fought right to the wire.”

Sent off as the 3-2 favourite, the two-year-old son of Betting Line-Deli Beach is now 3-for-3 for trainer Casie Coleman Herlihy. Partners Mac Nichol, John Liviakis and Blue Chip Bloodstock share ownership on the youngster who was a $340,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale. He’s hauled in earnings of $61,750 to date.
