Outlawsurshotshark got picked off in the closing strides of last week’s Alberta Princess elimination, but she didn’t make the same mistake in Saturday’s rich final.

The three-year-old daughter of Smart Shark-Fox Valley Cherish and trainer/driver Travis Cullen cruised to an easy win in the $58,100 final, and in doing so she played the role of the spoiler.

Outlawsurshotshark got away third from Post 3 while Monstrous and Ba Bye Ceia Later battled to the quarter pole in :28.2. Monstrous worked her way to the lead and proceeded to cruise to the half in :58. Cullen came first-over with Outlawsurshotshark going to the half, and his filly muscled to the top while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:27. A :29.2 closing quarter propelled her to the win by 2-3/4 lengths over the favourite, Monstrous. Divas Dragonfly was third.

Sent off as the 5-2 second choice in the wagering, Outlawsurshotshark posted the win for Travis Cullen and partners Ronald Cullen and Don Byrne Stables Inc. Unraced as a rookie, the filly now boasts a 9-4-2 record from 15 starts this season. The lion’s share of the loot lifted her lifetime earnings to $67,670.

Earlier on the card, Tajmeallover rallied for a 1:56.1 score in the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace. J.F. Gagne overcame late interference with the Marjorie Dumont trainee, who hauled down Sing Like An Angel in the closing strides. Im Gracies Wigwam was third.

Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, the five-year-old daughter of Tajma Hall-Watch Over Me posted the victory for Gagne, who co-owns the distaffer with Peter Van Seggelen, Carl Warnaar and Tapron Holdings Ltd. The win was her fifth of the season and the 20th of her career. She’s banked in excess of $41,000 this year and more than $136,000 to date.
