The stable of top trainer George Rennison and veteran driver Todd Trites ruled the day at Truro Raceway with the most wins during Sunday's program while a new driver emerged on the scene with a breakthrough victory.

Rennison bookended the afternoon's nine-race card with victories by three-year-old pacing filly Sweet Carolineemma ($11.30) in 2:01 and sophomore colt New Shooter ($3.10), who streaked to his third win in a row in 1:58 over stablemate Top Of Her Trade. Rennison also sent out four-year-old pacing mare The Generals Pride ($3.70) to a 1:59.4 victory in the sixth race. Todd Trites worked out the winning trips for all three of Rennison's trainees as part of a driving grand slam.

With his training triple on Sunday, Rennison pulled ahead in the Truro trainer standings and out of a tie for the top spot with Paul Langille. He now leads 16-14 at the current meet and has 21 wins overall this year.

After a close deadheat finish for second-place in Sunday's opener behind the Rennison winner, up-and-coming horseman Keith Legge celebrated his first career driving win in the $1,450 second race with the Langille-trained Preceptor (pictured above).

With the inside pair gapped off the gate, including favourite Johnnywalkerdelux on a break, Legge left out with 5-1 shot Preceptor from post three and kept the late comers at bay for the 2:01 victory. It took just 13 driving starts for 26-year-old Legge to make it to the winner's circle. He also has three training wins since launching his own stable last year.

Legge rated splits of :29.2, 1:00.1 and 1:30.2 behind the 10-year-old Vintage Master gelding with pressure mounting from the outer flow in the final turn as Godro Machine closed off the cover of Atufflittleguy to out-finish that foe when they crossed the wire a length behind the winner.

Trained by Paul Langille and owned by Rosanne Langille, Preceptor picked up his second win of the season from 10 tries and now has 25 victories lifetime. He paid $13.90 for the mild upset.
