Truro Raceway's top class pacers duked it out on Friday evening (July 29) resulting in a judges' placing that promoted Privilege to first in the featured Winners Over Pace.

Woodmere Ideal Art (Kyle Mason) protected his pylon position into the first turn of Friday's $2,500 feature race and scooted out to a two-length lead with a breaker in behind before 1-5 favourite Always B Sweet (Darren Crowe) bypassed the pocket and swept around him by the quarter pole in :27.3.

The bettors' choice continued to front the field through a half in :56.2 but Woodmere Ideal Art moved back out for the retake down the backstretch. As he tried to clear past three-quarters in 1:24.4, Always B Sweet broke stride, prompting the judges' inquiry and a driver's objection to follow after Woodmere Ideal Art went on to win while holding off last-closers Privilege (Todd Trites) and Risin Horizon (Clare MacDonald) by a half-length in 1:55 flat.

However, Woodmere Ideal Art was placed eighth by the judges for causing interference to Always B Sweet during the action on the front near the seven-eighths mark.

Privilege, who went first-up from mid-pack during the final lap, inherited the victory, with Risin Horizon bumped up to second and Well Did (Paul Langille) placed third.

Sent postward at odds of 12-1, Privilege (pictured above winning on July 15) returned $26.60 to his backers.

George Rennison trains the six-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding, who has won four of his last six starts competing on the East Coast for owners Aiden Ferrish of Summerside, P.E.I. and All For Fun Stable of Truro, N.S.. The victory was the pacer's 10th of the year from 23 starts and lifted his seasonal earnings over the $40,000 mark.

Rennison doubled up on the card as he also sent out seven-year-old pacing mare Vines To Heaven, who notched her 11th win of the season in a 1:54.3 five-length romp with Trites aboard.

Truro Raceway will be dark for the month of August, with live harness racing returning on Friday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.
