After a month away from the races, three-year-old pacing gelding Called In Sick showed up at Grand River Raceway and resumed his win streak as he collared favoured Sunshine Love at the wire on Friday (July 22).
Driven by Brett MacDonald in the evening's seventh race, a $7,200 pace for non-winners of $12,000 lifetime (with allowances), Called In Sick took back into third position early on after firing out of post six then chased down the front-striding Sunshine Love (:27.3, :57, 1:26) to prevail by a head in a new lifetime mark of 1:55 flat. Donoghue Seelster (Travis Henry) finished third along the pylons off a pocket trip.
Despite calling in sick a couple of times along the way, the Bettors Delight-Myluvmylife gelding has won five races in a row after debuting on May 16 with a top three finish for trainer Tim Myers and owner David Omicioli of Macomb, Michigan. His lifetime earnings now stand at $18,800.
Called In Sick, who was scratched sick from his scheduled start on July 1 and last raced on June 24 (pictured above), paid $5.40 to win as the 8-5 second choice.
