Woodbine Mohawk Park featured 11 qualifiers on Friday (July 21) morning and standout performances were made by Ifthasritthatsrong, Royal Beluga and Uncle Shank A.
Ifthasritthatsrong was steered to victory by his trainer Beau Brown, a win in 1:56 that allowed the freshman colt to beat the sophomores.
Brown and Ifthasritthatsrong took the pocket trip behind the leading Macwow (Jody Jamieson), who led the field of five to the quarter in :29 and half in :58.1. Macwow continued in the lead through the three-quarters in 1:28.2 as Ifthasritthatsrong made his move first-over. Ifthasritthatsrong took command around the final turn and sprinted to a 8-3/4-length achievement in 1:56. Sans Souci (Anthony Haughan) finished second with Macwow third.
Jennifer and Beau Brown co-own the son of Stag Party, who was making his second qualifying outing, with Shirley Symes.
Royal Beluga posted the fastest qualifying time for freshman trotters, winning by 15 lengths in 1:59.
Mark Etsell was in the bike of his trainee as they went to the gate from post three in the field scratched down to seven trotters. Stonebridge Cosmic (Jody Jamieson) took the early lead to the opening panel in :30.1, but a miscue left Royal Beluga in command. Royal Beluga soared through panels in :59.4 and 1:29.1 before using a last quarter in :29.4 en route to a 15-length victory. Hilarious Archie (Bob McClure) finished second and Kiss Me Zette (Tyler Borth) third.
It was the second qualifying attempt for the Tactical Landing son, owned by Etsell and Harbor Racing Stable LLC.
Uncle Shank A won his qualifying race for aged pacers in 1:53.1, the fastest time on the card.
From post four, James MacDonald and the Australian invader led wire-to-wire through panels in :28.3, :58.2 and 1:26.1 before taking the win by 2-3/4 lengths. Beachin Lindy (Austin Sorrie) was second and Sauble Amber (Trevor Henry) finished third.
Chantel Mitchell trained Uncle Shank A for his debut on Canadian soil. Kevin Harvey owns the six-year-old pacer.
