Esquire went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a solid score in Monday’s $11,500 Preferred Trot at Grand River Raceway.

With Tyler Borth at the controls, Esquire pushed through from Post 1 and sprinted through fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.1 before scooting home in :29.1 to win by three lengths over the first-over Sizzlen Hot Herbie.  Power And Grace tagged along and took home third prize.  Time for the mile was 1:56.2.

Mark Goddard trains the nine-year-old son of Kadabra-Earl Of My Dreams for owner Brandon Guerra of Brantford, Ont.  The victory was his sixth of the season and the 29th of his career.  He’s banked close to $70,000 this year and more than $309,000 to date.

Saulsbrook Jessie used the same tactical approach to capture top prize in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap.

Samuel Fillion hustled the Ron MacDonald trainee to the lead from Post 5 and the mare carved out fractions of :28, :58.3 and 1:27.1 before rolling home in :28.4 to win by four lengths over Catch An Ace in 1:56.  Ladies From Hell rounded out the Trifecta ticket.

Sent off as the even-money choice, the six-year-old daughter of Big Jim-Atlanta Girl improved her seasonal record to 7-1-4 from 20 trips to the track.  The 26-time winner has banked $233,156 to date for owner Ed Gorc of Sudbury, Ont.
