Power And Grace was both powerful and graceful in the Preferred 2 at Grand River Raceway on Monday (July 17) evening as she collected her 50th career win and the winner's share of the $11,000 purse using a gate-to-wire trip.

Brett MacDonald and Power And Grace were the bettors' choice in the evening feature as they went to the gate from post four. The pair held nothing back as they surged out of the gate and to the top with a 2-1/2-length lead as they clocked the quarter in :27.4. Power And Grace continued with at least a two-length advantage on the field as she passed the half in :57.3 and three-quarters in 1:26. Arrakis (J.R. Plante) attempted to close the gap between himself and the leader down the stretch, but was unable to catch Power And Grace as she stopped the timer in 1:55.1. Arrakis finished second, 1-3/4 lengths behind the winner, and Arcanum (Paul MacKenzie) rounded out the top three.

Ronald MacDonald trains Power And Grace for the partnership of Hartel Maintenance Inc., Lormer McClure, Brett MacDonald and Reg Higgs. The eight-year-old Holiday Road mare moved her seasonal tally to 5-5-5 in 21 starts with $58,300 earned, adjusting her career bankroll to a sum of $446,044.

Desperate Man earned his first win of the 2023 season in 1:51.4 with Garrett Rooney in the bike for trainer Kathy Cecchin. Nicole and Paul Davies co-own the five-year-old Shadow Play gelding with Kathy and John Cecchin. The winner of the 2021 North America Cup has $1,161,981 in career earnings and nine trips to the winner's circle.
