It was another busy Monday morning of qualifiers at Mohawk Racetrack, as another wave of two-year-olds took to the track as they continue their quest to make it to the races

.

Trainer Casie Coleman watched four of her rookies score winning efforts, with three of them handled by driver Mark MacDonald.

Western Silk, a daughter of Western Terror-Extemporaneous who was purchased for $50,000 at last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, turned in a 1:58 mile with a final quarter clocked in :27.4. Coleman of Cambridge, Ontario shares ownership on the filly with Tom Hill of Lancashire, Great Britain.

Hill’s She Just Rocks, a Rocknroll Hanover-Castaway Hanover filly, rallied to win the very next qualifier. She sat a pocket trip through fractions of :30.4, 1:00 and 1:29.2 before stepping home in :30.2 for the 2:00.1 decision. It was the second qualifying effort for the freshman, who was a $150,000 ticket at last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. She’s the first foal out of an unraced daughter of Cathedra (1:52.3 - $733,789).

Next up was Lake Shark, a son of Four Starzzz Shark-Life On The Rideau, who used a :27.4 final frame for driver Robert Shepherd to post the 1:59.3 victory. It was the second qualifying effort for the youngster, who originally purchased for $5,500 at the New Jersey Classic Yearling Sale and later re-sold to partners Eric Kints and Bob Hamather of Exeter, Ontario for an undisclosed sum.

The first qualifying effort for Sportswriter was a winning one, as he cruised to a victory in 2:00 for the tandem of Coleman and MacDonald. The son of Artsplace-Precious Beauty, who was a $50,000 purchase at the Harrisburg Yearling Sale, snapped home in :28.3 to notch the win. The rookie is owned by Steve Calhoun of Chatham and West Wins Stable of Cambridge, Ontario.

While those youngsters are just embarking on their careers, the Bob McIntosh-trained Windsong Soprano has already labeled herself as a proven commodity in the sport. The three-year-old daughter, who holds the distinction of being one of the fastest two-year-old trotters in the history of the sport, breezed to a 1:58 victory towards the end of this morning’s qualifying session.

The daughter of Windsongs Legacy-Muscling In brushed to the lead shortly past the quarter pole for driver Steve Condren, who sent the filly through panels of 1:00.2 and 1:29.4 before letting her rattle home in :28.1. She has a busy season of stakes events on her plate, including a possible trip to The Meadowlands for this Friday’s eliminations of the Delvin Miller Memorial Trot.
