Raising Rusty Upsets In Rideau Preferred

It was a class jump situation for Raising Rusty going into Thursday’s $10,500 Preferred Handicap for trotters at Rideau Carleton Raceway, but the gelding stepped up with a big effort en route to posting a second straight win.

Raising Rusty got away third at odds of 19-1 for trainer/driver Stephane Pouliot while Seeyou Men powered to the lead and chopped out fractions of :28, :57.1 and 1:26.  Race favourite Ripped And Ready was parked every step of the way, but he just kept on coming.

Raising Rusty slipped off the rail to catch cover behind the public’s top choice in the middle stages of the mile, and his closing quarter of :29 was just enough to haul down Ripped And Ready for the neck decision in 1:55.2.  Seeyou Men faded late and settled for third prize.

The five-year-old son of Kadabra-Raising The Bar is owned by 9096 9205 Quebec Inc of Gloucester, ON.  The victory was his second of the season and the 18th of his career.  The $5,250 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $95,403.

It was a solid day at the office for trainer Mandy Archer who watched her stable strike for four wins on the 10-race card.

Finding their way to victory lane for the high percentage conditioner were Scarletts Bigbeach (1:55.4), Coco Beach De Vie (1:55), Some Bettors Do (1:57), and Saulsbrook Raptor (1:55.3).

Her win total climbed to 43 thanks to the Grand Slam performance by the career winner of purses exceeding $1.2 million.
