Windsong Soprano came into her Monday evening assignment at Mohawk Racetrack as the fastest older trotting mare in Canada this season

, and she just got a bit faster.

The four-year-old daughter of Windsongs Legacy-Muscling In, who was a 1:53.4 winner at Mohawk on May 22, and she shaved one-fifth of a second off that clocking when she toured the Campbellville, ON oval in 1:53.3 en route to winning Monday’s $20,000 Fillies & Mares Trot.

Windsong Soprano got away third for driver Steve Condren, who was quite content to let things settle up front before he made a bid for the lead in the second quarter. When the field hit the backstretch, Condren hit the throttle and rolled the Bob McIntosh trainee to the lead.

After sitting in past the :27.2 opener she tripped the teletimer at the next two junctures in :56.3 and 1:24.3 before kicking out a :29-second final frame en route to posting the five-length triumph in 1:53.3. Friendly Amigo, a graduate of the O.S.S. program, was second and Mystical Starlight was third.

Susan Grange’s Lothlorien of Cheltenham, ON holds the papers on the talented trotting mare, who is paid up to a number of stakes engagements this season including next month’s Armbro Flight Stakes at Mohawk. The mare has banked in excess of $1 million to date.
