A nine-race card kicked off the 2022 harness racing season at Georgian Downs on Saturday (June 4).

Saulsbrook Jessie scored in the evening’s feature, a $10,000 fillies and mares conditioned pace.

The six-year-old Big Jim mare marched to the top past a :28 first quarter and cruised from there. She tripped a :57.4 half uncontested and endured mild first-over pressure from Broken into three-quarters in 1:26.2 before spurting clear. The odds-on favourite spun for home and opened 4-1/4 lengths on Broken to win in 1:54.4. Latte Seelster finished third.

Brett MacDonald piloted the $2.30 winner and led all drivers on the card with a double, teaming with trainer Ronald MacDonald later in the card to win going coast-to-coast with Dewtifuls Grace ($3.90).

Racing at Georgian Downs continues on Sundays, Tuesdays and Saturdays through August 30. First-race post time on Tuesdays and Saturdays is 7:15 p.m. (EDT) while racing on Sundays starts at 6 p.m.
