Sugar Bowl Looks To Close Down Charlottetown

With three straight wins to her credit since joining Team Hughes, Sugar Bowl will try to extend that streak in the Thursday evening finale at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The capital oval has 13 dashes starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday with Sugar Bowl the top choice in the final race of the night.

Jason Hughes trains and drives the post two starter in the $2,700 class for Tommy Collings of Mount Stewart, P.E.I., who co-owns the Sweet Lou mare with his grandson Brian MacPhee. The pacer has won all three of her assignments since coming to Atlantic Canada in early June, including a lifetime-best performance of 1:53.2 on June 15.

You Aint Dolly was second to her that day and gets post three to work with this week for driver Adam Merner and trainer Brendan Curran. Outrageous Style (to be driven by Gilles Barrieau) has rail control from the Ron Matheson barn while Maggiesdelight is a top entry from post six for the team of driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Michelle Myeres. Ladylike (Marc Campbell) drops from the Fillies and Mares Preferred class and has post five for trainer Jennifer Doyle.

Also in the field are Better Be In Love (Dale Spence), Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) and JM Sportsfan (Steven Shepherd).

The "Post Time Picks" like Sugar Bowl to extend her win streak: “Sugar Bowl has been great since arriving on the Island and has reeled off three in a row. She’s in deeper waters now but her form is excellent so be prepared for a Red Shores grand slam.”

The pacing feature lines up in race 12 with the Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace for a $3,500 pot. Dreamfair Zenfire is the top choice from post five for trainer/driver Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris, P.E.I. Her top rivals are slated as Share The Moment (Barrieau) and Acefortyfourdome (Hughes).

Jessiejesorjessica has top billing in the $3,100 Open Trot in race 10 for driver Dowling and trainer Doyle, who co-owns the Justice Hall mare with Danny Birt of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. Her main opposition is Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault) and Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy).
