A New Atlantic Star In Town?

Atlantic Star has made her way to the Eastern Seaboard of Canada and will kick off her Island season in the Special Olympics P.E.I. Pace on a special Tuesday evening (June 28) program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The historic oval has a 13-dash presentation planned with a 6:30 p.m. start time. Atlantic Star ships in from Indiana as the top choice in the race eight Special Olympics P.E.I. Pace, sponsored as the Official Charity of the P.E.I. Open. The $1,800 class will see Atlantic Star leaving from post five for trainer/driver Mike McGuigan and new owner Mike Pollard of Stratford, P.E.I. The six-year-old daughter of Cheyenne Rei had been racing at Hoosier Park in Anderson, Indiana and has scored four wins so far in 2022 along with $41,949 in purse earnings. Her top rivals are billed as post seven starter I Can Do It (to be driven by Adam Merner) while Dueling Banjos (Marc Campbell) has the outside post eight at 7-2 morning line odds.

Peter MacPhee leans on Atlantic Star to land on top of the Post Time Picks: “Atlantic Star is a newcomer to the Island and did have five wins on her resume in 2021. It looks like she has some serious step and, with Mike in the bike, it could be a winning debut.”

Race 6 is the Prince Edward Island Open, presented by IMP Solutions with Ms Moyse (Adam Merner) the top choice over Miami Seelster (David Dowling) and JM Sportsfan (Steven Shepherd).

Acefortyfour Dome will look for her third straight Preferred victory in Race 12 as the Jason Hughes-trained and driven daughter of Up The Credit leaves from post six in the $3,200 contest. Share The Moment (Gilles Barrieau) has rail control while Dreamfair Zenfire (Campbell) has post four after finishing second in this class the past two weeks.

The Open Trot lines up behind the Metro Home Building Centre starting gate in Race 9 for a $2,800 pot. Freddie (Campbell) is the morning line favourite after visiting the winner’s circle in this class last week. The field also has former Open Trot winners Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault) from post one and Daisy River (Hughes) with post three.
