The Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale held its first Yearling Care and Preparation Seminar, Saturday, June 23.

With all Hoosier Classic and Hoosier Heritage consignors invited to the event, a large crowd was in attendance to learn from several industry experts. Presenters included longtime industry veteran and well respected horseman Albert C. Adams.

Adams, with the assistance of his son, Mark, discussed overall foal, mare and yearling care. Linda Mazza of Winterwood Farm presented pointers on how to properly groom and present yearlings for sale, as well as shared opinions on grooming products.

Respected blacksmith Jim Sammons explained the importance of preventative and corrective trimming. Mark Bontrager of Mark the Spot, Inc. gave a brief presentation over lunch about the importance of yearling videos. Dr. Dan Burke of Tribute Equine finished up the seminar with a very informative speech on nutrition.

“We really felt the event went well and thank all who attended,” said sale partner Jeff Fought. “This has been an idea in the works for several years by sale manager Steve Cross, and I’m very pleased we were finally able to put it together. When yearlings are properly raised and prepped, it certainly benefits all of us, sellers, the sale company and ultimately the buyers of yearlings at our sales.”

The event was hosted at Cornerstone Stock Farm in Shipshewana, Indiana and was sponsored by Tribute Equine Nutrition and Wana Feed Service.
