Favoured Fillies Take Suffolk Splits

In the first half of the 51st edition Lady Suffolk Trot for three-year-old fillies, Mentally Stable and Jerry Silva’s Religulous took the lead at the start and never looked back while holding off Keystone Tabby in a long stretch battle

The daughter of Muscles Yankee went the distance in a clocking of 2:01.4 to win by a length. The runner-up finished 2-1/2 lengths in front of Kitefin Hanover.

With Hall of Famer John Campbell doing the steering for his seventh Lady Suffolk triumph, Religulous scored her initial victory lifetime and increased her bankroll to $73,516.

The winner returned her backers $3.20 to win and started an exacta worth $13.40 and a trifecta of $24.40.

In division two, American Viking Racing Stable, Theodore Gewertz, Robert Feldman and Rojan Stable’s Sweetspellosuccess took full control from the outset and won very handily by a measured 2-3/4 lengths over Reviewer, who was 4-1/2 lengths clear of Charlotte Alber at the finish.

Sweetspellosuccess was the biggest money earner entered in either division of the Lady Suffolk fields and brought her earnings to $111,274 with this victory being the fourth in her eight race career.

Trainer-driver Trond Smedshammer brought the daughter of Credit Winner home in 2:00.4
while giving him his fifth lifetime Lady Suffolk victory.

Sweetspellosuccess paid $3.40 to win and launched an exacta of $12.60 and a trifecta worth $37.80.

Live racing resumes at Freehold on Saturday with the 51st running of the Dexter Cup. First race post is 12:30 p.m.
