Mark Austin Series Underway At Dresden

Dresden Raceway featured the first leg of the Mark Austin Pacing Series on Sunday (May 29) and it's shaping up to be a great series.

Guy Smiley came from off the pace to win the first division of the Austin for driver Andy Moore in 2:00.3. The four-year-old Warrawee Needy horse stepped off his last quarter in :28.4 to catch race favourite Im A Stable Genius for the victory. The winning 9-1 shot is owned by Don Moore and trained by Bert Moore.

Risky Idea went wire to wire for driver Garrett Rooney to win the second division in 2:00.4. Risky Idea set fractions of :30, 1:01, 1:31.3 and held off a hard-closing Doc Houston. The four-year-old Sportswriter horse is owned by trainer Lindsey Kerr and Ellie Mayhew.

The second leg of the Mark Austin Pacing Series is set for next week, with the final going for $16,100.

Ladies Day at the races drew almost 600 fans with many prize draws while the handle was $27,063.
