Inverness Raceway's 2023 Meet Kicks Off This Weekend

The 2023 live harness racing season at Inverness Raceway will commence on Sunday, May 28.

The Nova Scotia half-miler will host seven races for the season opener, with post time set for 1 p.m. (ADT). 

The afternoon's finale will feature the top local pacers in the $1,800 Winners Over with the mare Boo Yaya headlining the six-horse field as the 5-2 morning line favourite from post three. Zachary Mullins is listed to drive the the daughter of Stonebridge Terror for trainer Carrie Saunders.

The Atlantic Sires Stakes graduate kicked off her four-year-old campaign for new connections with three starts at Truro Raceway, including a 1:58.3 victory on May 14. She was acquired last month by owners Kurt Harper of Bible Hill, Mark Harper of Inverness and Roger Harper of Port Hawksbury, N.S.

A career winner of seven races and nearly $65,000 in purses through 30 starts, Boo Yaya took her lifetime mark of 1:57.2 as a two-year-old in the Atlantic Breeders Crown at Truro. 

Starting to her inside, Don Beaton's five-year-old gelding Solid Silver will attempt to make his first start of the season a winning one from the pylon post while the Inverness-debuting mare Lazy Day Hanover is another top contender for Ardon Mofford. 

Defending dash driving champion Redmond Doucet will steer Windemere Best Man from post four in the feature while last year's Governor's Cup Series champion Eastcoast Invader and Windmeredontmatter complete the lineup.

The track's 2023 race date schedule includes most Sunday afternoons (1 p.m. post time) through October, with Wednesday evenings (7 p.m. post time) added in July and August except for Old Home Week. 

Inverness Raceway will host legs of the Atlantic Sires Stakes on July 26 for three-year-old pacing fillies, July 30 for two-year-old pacers, Aug. 23 for trotters and Sept. 17 for three-year-old pacing colts. The Sept. 17 stakes card will also include the Phil Pinkney Memorial for three-year-old pacing fillies and the Inverness Invitational.
