Delays in the construction of the Summerside grandstand have caused concern for the harness racing community, however, according to The Guardian the city’s Chief Administrative Officer has guaranteed that Lobster Carnival racing will go ahead as scheduled

.

After areas of the main stabling barn were knocked down twice this winter by wind, the city brought in help to clean up and rebuild, which was covered by insurance.

Work continues on the parimutuel section, the judges' stand and the barns.

“We’ll be using the upper floor [of the grandstand] starting the first of July,” CAO Terry Murphy said. “The gaming, lower section, will be open the first of August.

“So, as far as the carnival goes, the upstairs will be operational. The races will be going on there.”

Lobster Carnival Week, which concludes with the Governor’s Plate, will run from July 13-18.
